Not Cricket!

I'm no Cricket purist, but when both teams score exactly the same total of runs at the end of the match, it's called a 'tie'.

Bowling balls at stumps is something to do at practice, not a way to settle which team played better. Hurumph!

  • I loved the bowl off - very exciting!
Yes, perhaps having a tie would be more appropriate for this gentlemanly sport, but much less dramatic.
I'm still suprised that international class cricketers struggled to hit wickets when there wasn't even a batter to protect them. It's like a ten-pin bowling champ getting gutter balls.

  • First of all, I am shocked at this, where did this come from?

Second? How hard is it to hot three stumps, its pretty damn easy. I can't believe Cairns missed two shots?

Hpw does it work, is it just bowling at unguraded stumps? or is it just one stump (which would make more sense)?

  • This is something dreamed up for 20/20 Cricket to resolve a tie. There is no batsman, there are three stumps. A delivery has to be legal (i.e. foot behind the line, no chucking.)

Last night in Auckland, NZ needed 16 runs from the final over to beat the Windies. They got 15, with Shane Bond hitting a four on the last ball to tie.

New Zealand delivered 9 balls, and only three hit the stumps (two by Shane Bond, one by Scott Styris). The Windies bowled 8 balls and not one delivery hit.

  • No wonder Fleming is against it. So am I. What has become of cricket?
