Who is the Greatest?
Shane Warne has play a large number of test and bowled a lot of balls in Test cricket. Consequently he has got a large number of wickets. But can he claim to be the greatest of all time?
If other bowlers turned their arms over as often as Warne did, and assuming they averaged the same as they did in the rest of their careers, you would get the following results:

I think your question on who is the greatest is easy to answer.
This month it must be wee Bevan Lachlan Ellis who arrived January Ist right on time.
Congratulations Michael and Chaucey!

If your point was to show Shane Bond is the greatest bowler then let me throw cold water on it.
His body is stuffed. He would not survive the workload of all those others.
Dream on.
Although nice the dream was.

All very well and good, but muralitheran is a chucker, the man should have been thrown out of the game long ago, but the politicaly correct mob got in the way again

My point is that Shane Warne is an average bowler who had modern transport (I.e. being able to play more tests), a willing captain and longevity on his side.
It makes him a great, but not the greatest.

It's no secret that spinners generally have higher strike rates than seamers do, which explains why he trails on your list. On the other hand, he has a career average of around 25, which is absolutely exceptional for a spinner, and better than most seamers. So yes, he is one of the greatest ever, especially when coupled with the fact that he revived interest in the art of spin.
Muralitharan is a freak, and an amazingly controlled freak who deserves praise. He most certainly is not a cheat, however the advantage his rubber-like wrist gives him puts him in second place behind Warne in the spinner's hall of fame IMO.
