Dirty Poll II
Now I'm actually angry about this. Steven Lulich, the Labour Party Hutt 2020 chair is making a perfectly legitmate 'expose' on my current National Party position. (Although I have only been Secretary of Rimutaka for 18 months, so how I could identify myself as being such when I last wrote a letter almost two years ago.) And it's not as if I've ever hidden from my affiliation to the National Party.
But then he reveals that his response to my letter was to come and case my home, and he includes enough information about my home to make it very easy for any passers-by to identify.
I do note that I have the moral victory here - Steven Lulich doesn't address any of the massive costs I identified.

A very interesting post that one - you're right about him not addressing any of your points, although you probably should have mentioned your affiliation to National with elections so close. Which newspaper was this in?
Regarding the content of your letter, I think you're being a bit mischievous. Just because your local council wants to call something the "National Whatever", that doesn't mean it'll have any sort of official standing, so it's a bit of a stretch to argue that a Te Papa-size budget will follow. Adding the word "national" is merely a simple marketing technique designed to add prestige to whatever silly, self aggrandising scheme your local pollies have dreamt up, and has been done before - there's a supposed "national" aquarium in Napier.

The National Party is not standing any candidates in Local Body elections, so I didn't see it as being necessary. And it's my opinion, not the opinion of the National Party (or any other organisation). If it had been, I would have signed it as such.
Also, Steven Lulich wrote to the Dominion Post three months ago to deny that Hutt 2020 was affilated to the Labour Party (Although just about every candidate is inolved in the Labour Party!) so I'm not sure why it's a partisan issue.
BTW, I've fielded a few emails of support today - a lot of people think the Labour Party has turned nasty, and not just with me.

Yeah, fair enough. The problem is though, that by not mentioning it you gave him a means to not only appear to address your point without actually doing so, but also to imply that you're hiding something. Maybe you don't have to sign your letters as a National party secretary or whatever, but perhaps work it subtly into the content of the letter just to show that you're comfortable with people knowing it. Just a thought.
