An Easy Target
From the NZ Herald. There has been much condemnation of Pope Benedict's recent pronouncement that the spread of HIV in Africa cannot be stopped by encouraging use of condoms.
Instead of focusing on what Pope Benedict said, which was that the spread of HIV will eventually stop if there is no extra-marital sex, so-called Anti-AIDS campaigners and media have instead focused on their prejudices - that only promoting condoms will save lives.
If researchers and media stopped for a second they may discover that there is only one African nation with a falling rate of HIV infection - Uganda. And it is the first country to promote the ABC Programme.
A - Abstain from sex before marraige.
B - Be faithful to your partner.
C - Use Condoms only as a last resort.
Uganda has managed to reduce it's rate of HIV infection from 21% in 1991, to 6% in 2002.
Just who is not in touch with reality?
