Not letting you get away with that one, Russel

Last night on the news, Greens Co-Leader Russel Norman claimed that the National Party was "racist". And to prove that Russel never lies, I've prepared the following graph showing the percentage of Green MPs versus National MPs by ethnicity:

Oops Russel, turns out the National Party obviously aren't as racist as the Greens.

  • Almost all of the time I dislike ideas - not people. But in Russel's case I am forced to make an exception. Did he offer any reason for the claim?

  • It was a speech aimed at the Mt Albert campaign but given at the Green Party conference in Dunedin - presumably based on Melissa Lee's comments on South Auckland criminals (when she never mentioned race).

He also called Labour a say anything, do nothing party.

  • Russel Norman is correct but he wasn't referring to the make-up of the National party. He was meaning their behaviour.

  • South Coaster - are you suggesting that the National Party is full of Uncle Tom's? Greenies keep disrespecting other points of views in a very negative way!

No wonder the Greens get labelled arrogant and told to lighten up.

  • Being racist has nothing to do with your own ethnic make up. You can just as easily be racist and any other particular racial origin so the ethnic makeup of the National Party (or any other party) says nothing of its racist tendencies or not. it may just be that some racial groups tend to more more politically active than others.

  • "some racial groups tend to more more politically active than others" - Isn't that racial stereotyping that brown people don't get involved in politics?

I just get bugged that if you don't believe in separate representation for Maori but in universal wards/electorates then you get labelled racist.

And if you claim a highway will stop South Auckland Criminals, or preventing released prisoners being automatically paroled to State Houses without consulting Housing NZ ...

  • What a nonsensical way to look at whether a political party has rascist policies.

National and Act have very little respect for Tikanga Maori and the fact that Maori are tangata whenua - especially when compared to the Greens.
