What is Letterboxing?

Letterboxing is a like treasure hunt. We hide a container somewhere, and give clues so you find it.

For instance, we have left a letterbox in the Colonial Knob Scenic Reserve in Porirua. We have created some clues (really easy clues, more like directions) so you can find it.

What do I need to Letterbox?

To participate in Letterboxing you will need:

  • A rubber stamp with a picture (hand-made or commercial

  • A small notebook for keeping a log of boxes you find

  • A sense of adventure!
  • Can I place a Letterbox?

You sure can! There are simple rules to follow when placing a letterbox:

  • Include a stamp, stamp pad, log book, pencil, pencil sharpener and letterboxing leaflets.

  • Leave them where a non-letterboxer shouldn't be able to find them.

  • Do not disturb the environment - i.e. don't bury the box but place in a natural hole or crevice.

  • Include your contact name and details.

  • Remember to go back and check it from time to time.
  • Okay, I want to get out and find a Letterbox!

The click on the link and go to our clues page!
